VM Fisk

Pink Punk, So Much Lately, and Windmill are from VM Fisk’s Thought Traps and Mind Mazes series of acrylic paintings on shaped wood panel, where energetic ribbons of vibrant color seem to leap right off the wall, enlivening the space around them. In this body of work, Fisk examines shape, color, texture, and pattern through what she refers to as “mild illusions,” reminding the viewer that things may not always be as first perceived. These mild illusions are born from intuitive and spontaneous doodles, which she practices as a form of meditation – a way to process her experiences living with neurodivergency and organize the constant chatter in her mind. â€‹â€‹

A Virginia-based, interdisciplinary artist, Fisk studied painting and video art at California Institute of the Arts and sculpture at Virginia Commonwealth University. She has exhibited nationally at institutions including the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, CA, and has two upcoming solo shows planned at A Wall Gallery in Richmond, VA opening this November, and Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville, VA in spring 2027. Her work is held in the permanent collection of the Mexic-arte Museum in Austin, TX and the Capital One corporate collection. Fisk was also listed as one of Tribeza Magazine’s “10 to watch” in 2016.
