NoBA Artspaces presents Ron Tarver's never-before-shown "Land Sea Air" photographs, a long-term, ongoing project that explores the wide-ranging system of wetlands in the National Wildlife Refuge. Through his elegantly rendered naturalistic photos that verge on abstraction, Tarver investigates the delicate nature of the ecosystem and our relationship to these unique spaces. Whether lush, bleak, dynamic, or peaceful, these landscapes reflect Tarver’s careful sense of design that locates an inherent order in the natural wilderness.

Tarver (MFA, University of the Arts) is on the Studio Art faculty at Swarthmore College. He served as staff photographer at the Philadelphia Inquirer for 32 years, where he won a 2012 Pulitzer Prize for his work documenting violence in the Philadelphia public school system, and was nominated for a second Pulitzer in 2013 for a series exploring dog training programs in prisons. His work has appeared in National Geographic; Life; Time; Newsweek; The New Yorker; and Black and White Magazine, and he co-authored the book, We Were There: Voices of African American Veterans, which was accompanied by a traveling exhibition.  He has received prestigious honors and awards from the Pew Charitable Trusts, National Endowment for the Arts, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Independence Foundation, and Center for Emerging Visual Artists, and has been named of the Delaware Valley's "50 Rising Stars in the Arts" by Seven Arts Magazine. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Studio Museum in Harlem, State Museum of Pennsylvania, Oklahoma Museum of History, and Smithsonian American Art Museum.
