Nancy Agati, "Continuum - Zinc", 2015

"In the Spring of 2014, I was awarded a Tending Space, Art and Meditation Fellowship from the Hemera Foundation. The fellowship was a huge step in my ability to slow down and to approach my work through various forms of making, piecing together or building. This current body of work, entitled Continuum, is a series of works on paper that began during the fellowship period. The drawings/paintings that make up the Continuum series are an extension of a prior series entitled Portico.  Both series’ began with a specific set of design elements, which were repeatedly drawn, rotated, and layered to form an image.

My approach was a visual investigation of the repetition of continuous line and pattern with an attempt to embrace the Buddhist concept of ‘not knowing’. It is no surprise that the continuum of shape, pattern and form tends to shift quite a bit from one painting to the next. The placement of shape and repetition of pattern has become a meditative and loosely mathematical technique for exploring seemingly boundless visual possibilities." - Nancy Agati
